The Oneida Lake Paintings
A work-in-progress series of paintings
The paintings display real and mythological examples of disaster, states of calm before and after disaster, and the way time fades, wears, and eventually erases these events.
The modern and ancient blend into nonlinear collages,
The figure is warned by feathered messengers,
To recontextualize these stories in a familiar place, visual references are made to Oneida Lake.
Growing up on the northern bank of one of the most polluted lakes in the United States, I watched how the mix of agricultural runoff, trash, and acid rain shaped the environment.
This experience visits the paintings in the form of creatures, plants, and water from the lake.
